About the Project:
In this project the aim was to create visualizations of the poetry, “Madhushaala” by Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The path to the Madhushaala is seen as an analogy to the remarkable journey called “LIFE”. Each paragraph deals with some aspects with life. I tried to get an exposure to playing with different media and see how one can communicate the poet’s thoughts that have been expressed in the form of words, in the form of visual imagery.

The inspiration to do this project comes out of my strong interests in the fields of Photography, abstract art, Indian symbolism and Nature. Metaphorical representations of things has always interested me and I have always strived to express my vision through the camera. I see poetry in every photograph that I take and I see learn to see the world through an another eye.
Design Process:
The project was done in multiple phases. The first step was to analyze the different kind of visualizations.

This was followed by the study of exemplars and past work. Out of the concepts that were explored were sketches, illustrations, real photographs and video (the final concept). The challenge that lay in the project was that the poem had a connotative meaning that was a representation of Life. Hence the selection of the metaphors was difficult.

The locations were studies in detail based on the areas around the IIT campus. The story-board was based on the selected locations and each frame of the movie to be shot were created in the story board. The characters and cast were selected based on the story board and the script was written. A sequence analysis of the script comprised of the camera angles, shot compositions, shot durations, the music and the transition between the frames.

Based on the the above the film was shot, and edited in a professional studio. The voice-over was recorded in the studio and added later on to the footage captured.
