About Portal:
Welcom Portal is a collaborative portals for the members of the World Economic Forum (WEF) to collaborate on current issues and other important issues that are taking place around the world. The collaboration could happen realtime or on a remote basis. The people interacting with the portal would range from novice users to expert users in computers and information technology.
Design Process and Solution:
The work involved studying existing collaborative platforms like Net meeting, Webex, Web meeting and other collaborative portals like Orkut, hi5 and Friendster. The portal was also meant to be an easy way to contact people within the same profiles. Thus looking into issues of social networking on virtual communities was necessary. After the information architecture was done, a low fidelity prototype for the portal and then the Wireframes was developed. The wireframes was then converted to visual designs, which were then developed by a developer.
Design Solution
A web-based application designed to suport various mediums of collaboration namely chat, mail, video call, file sharing etc.The portal provides the option of locating users, events map, sharing files, consulting experts, setting appointments etc. This was presented as a concept to the client. It was later developed using AJAX.
After the screens were developed, the application underwent a Heuristic Evaluation with other expert reviewers.
